Welcome to the course "Research methodology and scientific communication".
This course is divided into three main parts. The first section introduces students to the history of science and how science has evolved in different research fields over years.
In the second part of this course students will get an impression of different research methods, like qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches with focus on critical and creative thinking. Included in this section is also an overall introduction to statistical analysis.
The third part of this lesson focuses on different forms of scientific communication and different media. In the first section the students will learn important techniques on scientific writing and how to publish scientific achievements in scientific journals. Part of this section is also an overview of oral and written presentation techniques. The second part explains different communication tools which can be used to present scientific findings to the public, to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
This course consists of thirteen units, all of them are based on the same principle:
- Learning outcomes and content: This part gives a short overview of the respective lesson
- Lecture / Lesson: here you will find the background information, compiled in a powerpoint or pdf-file
- Additional links and ressources: this part includes additional readings and videos for better understanding
- Assignments: Here you will find all assignments which have to be done at the end of each lesson
