Development and maintenance of infrastructures today is less a technical issue, but to a large degree depends on organizational, regulatory and policy frameworks. Geospatial data organized as infrastructures, from a European point of view, are largely based on the INSPIRE directive. As a majority of operational stakeholders are from the semi-public and private domains, this brings specific challenges. Additional policies and strategic direction is provided on national levels as well as within domains. Particular attention will be paid to the contexts of ‘critical infrastructure protection’ as well as privacy.
